Re:Volunteers needed for an Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) – diarrhea predominate Research Study

Dear Volunteer:

Coastal Carolina Research Center is conducting a clinical research study to evaluate the effectiveness of an investigational medication for the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome, otherwise known as IBS. This disorder, surprisingly, affects up to one in five Americans, making it one of the most common disorders diagnosed by doctors. IBS is a disorder of the intestines that can lead to abdominal pain, bloating and changes in bowel habits. It is typically characterized with either diarrhea or constipation and sometimes a person may alternate between the two conditions.

This particular study is seeking persons who primarily experience diarrhea symptoms and will assess whether the investigational medication will reduce abdominal pain and the number of bowel movements.

To be considered for participation in this research study, you must be between the ages of 18 to 79 years old, have IBS, and meet additional entry criteria for the study. If you are eligible and decide to participate, you will be asked to attend approximately 5 office visits over 19 weeks. Participation in this research study includes, at no cost, study-related:
  • Physical Exams
  • Lab tests
  • Investigational Study Medication
  • Colonoscopy or flexible sigmoidoscopy (if necessary)
Monetary reimbursement of up to $365 is available for those who qualify.

If you are interesting in helping us with this important study and think your child would be able to meet the study guidelines or would just like to receive more information please contact Coastal Carolina Research Center at 856-3784, email us at ccrc@coastalcarolinaresearch.com or go to our website, http://www.coastalcarolinaresearch.com to apply online.

To respect your interest and commitment in volunteering for a clinical research study, we offer flexible appointment scheduling. We look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Cynthia B. Strout, MD
Medical Director
