> High Cholesterol Research
High cholesterol, where total cholesterol levels are above 240 mg/dL, is one of the major risk factors for heart disease and stroke, and is one of the easiest factors to control.

It is caused when LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol) builds up on artery walls, restricting blood flow to and from the heart and brain.

High cholesterol, however, can be controlled by avoiding foods, such as eggs or meat, that have a high amount of cholesterol, and by limiting saturated fats. Instead, eat healthy fats, as well as high-fiber foods, such as oatmeal, brown rice, fruits and vegetables.

Regular exercise and a healthy body weight can also help reduce and control cholesterol.

For some patients, high cholesterol can only be controlled through a combination of diet, exercise and medication. Coastal Carolina Research Center conducts high cholesterol clinical trial research. We currently have ongoing high cholesterol clinical trials, listed here. If you have high cholesterol and you want to help make a difference for yourself and others, you should participate in a high cholesterol clinical trial. You can help yourself and others - and get compensated for it. Participants who qualify for clinical trials generally receive compensation for their time and travel expenses.

If you would like to be considered for another type of study in the future please click here to submit your interest and the next clinical study we obtain that you are qualified to participate in, we promise to contact you.
